Interview with Denver Broncos

As I prepared on Sunday for the action packed football games about to burn into my television screen for the next 10 hours, I became intrigued by an interview by Erin Andrews with the receiving team of the Denver Broncos. Much of the three minute interview is fun and light, but what sparked my interest was when Andrews asks three of the team members what they thought of Wes Welker coming on to the team. She thought for sure they would be nervous about losing opportunities to make plays. I was impressed by Decker’s answer because he showed great leadership with his response. He says he was excited about Welker joining the team because he knew to win a championship you have to have the best players on one team. It reminded me of the reading we have done for class with True North where George talks about the “Transformation from I to We.” Decker was showing that he recognized “that leading was not about their (his) success but the success they could create by empowering others to lead.”
