Teaching Grit Through Music

This is a wonderful article linking music in school to grit. I have seen this first-hand when I was a middle school band director. Many students are highly successful when first learning an instrument because they have natural talent. When they advance to the point where hard work is necessary to reach the next level, many students quit. Also, many students quit after their first year of band because they lack natural talent but also lack the work ethic to be better at their instrument. Without even a small bit of grit, being a successful with music is impossible. Frequent practice is necessary for being a great musician, and too many people do not prioritize practicing very highly.
